I would be interested in any information you might find concerning the Newport 30 hull. I have a 1981 N30 MK II that came with an uninstalled Horizon DS45 Depth Sounder when I bought the boat last year. It has a thru-hull transponder that I need to site and install.

The installation in a cored hull sounds a whole lot more complex then just epoxying the transponder in place for a solid hull.

My two questions are: Does the Newport 30 have a cored hull? Approx. how thick is the hull in the area about 12 inch to the right of the leading edge of the keel?

If the boat your looking at has a depth sounder, where did they locate the transponder, suggestions welcome.

Anyone else out there with some insight?
