Eddie, In response to your question in the discusion section---the Mark III is almost a foot longer and several inches (maybe 4) wider due almost exclusiveley to the hull to deck joint turning out insted of in. The Mark III bow (cutwater) is more pointy than the well rounded Mark II. The keel and rudder are different. Nevertheless, I think that except for making the bow pointier, the hulls of the II and III are almost identical where they touch the water and from the inside. The designer for the aMark III was Listed as "Capital Yachts Design Team" While the Mark II was listed as a Gary Mull Design. I'd make a wild guess that the changes were more aimed at not having to pay Mull a fee for each boat built than it was aimed at boat improvements. My Mark III has a little more rated sail area than the Mark II (425 vs 395) and a little less ballast. In racing, I'm just a bit faster in winds under say 6 Knots and the Mark II is faster (and stiffer) when the wind is 15 knots and up. Overall, the Mark II in my opionion is the better boat.
