Just days before we were scheduled to be launched this year (after 2 years of rebuilding from the keel up) we found the port chainplate was bolted only into a completely rotted bulkhead. The mast would have come down immediately if we had tried to put it up. We were pressed for time so made up extensions for both chainplates so that they could at least be bolted into the hull inner liner. We also replaced the rotted section of the bulkhead with a piece of ACQ pressure treated wood - bolted into the chainplate and bedded to the deck above. It didn't move at all this past season so I think I'll leave it. Doug Bauer
