I replaced the old Galleymaid alcohol gimballed stove and oven some years back. I found a two burner Force 10 (all stainless) that would even have fit exactly into the same gimbal sockets (a drop in place exact replacement) but I replaced the old rusty GalleyMaid sockets with the new Force 10 stainless ones "just because"! My 82 30 Mk III is tiller steered so doesn't have the hump on the aft sitting steering seat. By slightly whittling out a portion (1/4") of the in-turned lip of the stern icebox compartment below the aft cockpit seat, I am able to barely slide in a 1.5 gallon propane container. Once I get it thru the opening, there's plenty of room to move it around inside the compartment. As a matter of fact, if I put the middle one in last, I can get three of the littlle hummers to fit into the underseat compartment which is drained out thru the bottom to a stern thru-hull. The pressure regulator, pressure valve and marinetics solenoid are located in the underseat locker at the aft wall of the space. The Xintec propane sniffers (sensors) are located in the pots and pans storage bin below the gimballed stove and in the salon just below the bulkhead mounted radiant LPG cabin heater panel. If they sense LPG, they shut off the solenoid valve back at the bottles in the stern compartment. The hoses from the regulator to the stove and from the regulator to the heater are each one piece (no splices) and the hole in the locker wall, through which the hoses pass, is very well caulked keeping any potential LPG vapors in the locker where they will drain out the bottom via the thruhull, being heavier than air.

During the summer cruising, when we use the heater just to take off the NW morning chill, a 1.5 gallon LPG bottle lasts about 1-1.5 weeks. In the winter racing season, when the cabin heater is on from the time we leave the dock until we return 5-18 hours later, a bottle seems to last about 1.5 to 2 races. If there is any other info I can share about how I did my changeover to LPG, feel free to contact me at my e-mail address. (I don't access the Newport website very often anymore)
